If you are an electric vehicle owner in Tasmania and would like to earn some additional income from your car, now is the time to take action!

The Tasmanian Government is sprucing their Hire and Drive Reimbursement Program (HDRP) , which aims to support and re-establish hire and drive operators impacted by COVID-19. As a result, owners who list their vehicle on evee qualify for the program and can receive grants of up to $1000. The eligibility criteria can be found here.

Our fleet of EVs in Tasmania is in extremely high demand, as the southern state continues to be a popular holiday destination for mainland Australians. Travelers have loved being able to drive electric for the duration of their travels, marveling at stunning countryside scenery and lush coastal views.

Tasmania is also highly regarded for its dedication to environmentalism, and as of last year, is powered 100% by renewable energy, making driving an electric vehicle in the state practically zero emissions!

Craig Clark, an evee host based in Tasmania, says evee was instrumental to him becoming a Tesla owner and his car has had a great uptake rate:

“I actually rented another host’s Model X simply for fun (and then another’s Model 3 for a more test drive focused hire). I was a fan and expected to enjoy it but after that first hire my wife and kids loved it so much too that we all wanted one.

Buying a Tesla, the highest value car we have ever owned, was a simple decision as part of the plan was to rent it out via evee. I don’t think we could have justified purchasing a Model 3 without evee being part of the equation. Especially as the better family car for us would be a Model Y. But we deliberately purchased the Model 3 as I wanted it here for the peak tourism season with the borders set to relax. And now, especially after the December 15 border changes for Tasmania, my Model 3 (Mr T – I pity the fuel!) is almost fully booked until March. It is more than paying for itself and there is starting to be talk of adding another to the family.

So far the renters I have had have been very appreciative and a lot of them, even the interstate holiday makers, have sought out a Tesla as they are considering a purchase as well. So it is a great way to share the passion.”

Craig was successful in making a claim for the Hire and Reimbursement Program and has recently been paid, he says he found the process “easy” and “quite painless”.

Another Tasmanian evee host Jayden Smith says his experience hiring out his Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus has been a great one:

“I have made some extra money and hopefully influenced some to make the transition to electric. The customers have been respectful and any questions I have are always answered quickly by evee.”
